The Architect has one of the best MITB cash-ins of all time
Seth Rollins, betterknown as “The Architect,” has established an impressive career in WWE, notably with the Money in the Bank (MITB) pay-per-view. Rollins has been a key player in these high-stakes matches since his debut in the MITB ladder match in 2014.
His inventive approach, strategic mindset, and determination to push the boundaries have made him a remarkable player. Rollins has competed in several MITB competitions throughout the years, winning notable clashes and defining his career.
Let’s look at Rollins’ performance at the Money in the Bank PPV, including each appearance and his influence on the event.
Money in the Bank 2014
Seth Rollins‘ first trip into the Money in the Bank ladder match was in 2014. WWE revealed that Bad News Barrett’s injury would rule him out of the bout, leaving Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, Rob Van Dam, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, and Rollins in the ring.
The bout was a chaotic struggle, with Ambrose and Rollins’ personal feud at the forefront. Despite Ambrose’s gallant attempts, including a recovery from an apparent injury, Kane’s interference helped Rollins win the briefcase, giving him his first Money in the Bank triumph.
Money in the Bank 2015
In 2015, Seth Rollins did not partake in the ladder match, but rather in a high-stakes WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Dean Ambrose. The match was a grueling ladder battle in which both guys tested their boundaries. Rollins retained his championship in a hard-fought bout, cementing his place as WWE’s top champion.
Money in the Bank 2016
Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
In 2016, Rollins faced Dean Ambrose in a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. The intense rivalry between the former Shield members made for a dramatic contest. Rollins displayed his technical prowess and resilience, ultimately defeating Ambrose to win back the WWE title. However, Ambrose cashed in his newly won Money in the Bank contract immediately after the match, defeating Rollins and claiming the championship.
Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
On the same night, Rollins also faced Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Despite Reigns’ power and aggression, Rollins’ speed and technical skills led him to victory, winning the WWE title. This victory was short-lived as Ambrose’s cash-in resulted in Rollins losing the championship moments after winning it.

Elias conducted a pre-match performance in which he chastised the Chicago supporters. When the bell rang, Seth Rollins kept the challenger on the mat. He had Elias in danger until a clothesline sent him falling out of the ring. Elias focused on the champion’s neck, gloating as he proceeded to suffocate him. Rollins’ speed advantage propelled him back into the contest.
He favoured his neck as he performed his hallmark maneuvers, tweaking his knee in the process. A hobbling Rollins fought on and was able to roll up Elias (with a handful of tights) for a three count.
Money in the Bank 2019
Seth Rollins returned to Money in the Bank in 2019, where he defended his Universal Championship against AJ Styles. The contest was a display of athleticism and technical ability, with both competitors providing outstanding performances. Rollins defended his championship in a hard-fought match, adding another unforgettable moment to his Money in the Bank career.
Money in the Bank 2020
The WWE championship was next on the line as Drew McIntyre defended it against Seth Rollins, with Samoa Joe joining the commentary crew. The Scottish Superstar backed Rollins into the corner immediately away to demonstrate his might. The challenger remained unfazed and placed him in a headlock. It concluded with The Monday Night Messiah being knocked out of the ring.
After both men blocked each other’s best strikes, McIntyre landed the Claymore to retain his championship. He extended his hand to Rollins as a sign of respect, and the challenger took it despite appearing unhappy.
Money in the Bank, 2021
Rollins competed in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in 2021 against John Morrison, Riddle, Big E, Ricochet, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, and Drew McIntyre. The match was a fierce duel featuring high-flying moves and hard-hitting combat. Rollins demonstrated his strategic approach and in-ring prowess, but he was ultimately defeated by Big E, who earned the briefcase.
Money in the Bank 2022
The 2022 Money in the Bank ladder match saw Rollins face Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Sami Zayn, Madcap Moss, Riddle, Omos, and the surprise entrant Theory. Despite Rollins’ impressive performance and his ability to outsmart many competitors, Theory’s last-minute inclusion and opportunistic tactics led to his victory, leaving Rollins without the briefcase once again.
